Who We Are
A community built on pixels, passion, and a whole lot of nostalgia.
Our Mission
Retro Gaming Central started as a simple idea: there should be a place online that genuinely celebrates the history, culture, and craft behind the games that shaped everything we know about interactive entertainment today.
We're not here to sell you anything. We're here to share knowledge — through articles, quizzes, deep dives, and honest discussions about the games, consoles, and developers who changed the world one pixel at a time.
Whether you grew up pouring 10p coins into an arcade cabinet or you've only recently discovered the magic of a 16-bit soundtrack, this is a place for you.
The Big Question
The games of the 70s, 80s, and 90s are part of our shared cultural history. Pac-Man is as recognisable as Mickey Mouse. Space Invaders shaped an entire generation's relationship with technology.
Classic game designers worked with brutal constraints — limited memory, no internet, tiny screens. What they achieved with so little teaches us more about creativity and problem-solving than most design courses.
There's a reason people still pick up a SNES controller and lose an hour without noticing. Classic games were designed to be fun first, everything else second. That philosophy never gets old.
Every mechanic in modern gaming has roots in something older. Understanding where things came from helps you appreciate where they're going — and see just how far we've all come.
How We Write
Everything published on Retro Gaming Central goes through a proper editorial process. Our writers are genuine enthusiasts — people who have actually played the games they write about, not just looked them up on Wikipedia.
We aim for accuracy above all else. If we're not sure about something, we say so. If a game was influential but also deeply flawed, we say that too. Our readers deserve honest writing, not empty nostalgia.
We also try to give proper credit to the developers, designers, and artists behind classic games — people who are often forgotten in broader discussions about gaming history.
Our Journey
James Hartley, frustrated by the lack of quality retro gaming content that wasn't buried under ads and affiliate links, started writing long-form articles on a personal blog. A few posts went unexpectedly viral in gaming forums.
Rachel Chen joined as lead writer after reaching out via a gaming history forum. Danny Fowler, who'd been building quiz apps for fun, came on board to handle interactive content. Nadia Patel rounded out the team with her background in game research.
Retro Gaming Central launched as a proper platform with a full content library, interactive quizzes, and a structured editorial process. Reader feedback shaped almost everything about how the site looks and works today.
Content expanded significantly to cover console generations, arcade history, game mechanics, and developer spotlights. The quiz engine was rebuilt from scratch to handle more complex question types and score tracking.
A growing library of articles, a community of engaged readers, and a clear focus on what we do best: honest, well-researched content about the history of video games. We're still the same four people who started this, still driven by the same curiosity.
We love hearing from readers — whether it's a correction, a suggestion, or just a message about your favourite game.
